I started performing Summer in Sanctuary, 10 years

I started performing Summer in Sanctuary, 10 years ago. This marks the end of the journey. I’m retiring the show after an amazing run that took me Off-Broadway, all around the country, and extended run in San Francisco. The story of working at the Sanctuary on 8th St. change my life
and my perception of the world. The people I met there, and all the ppl who worked on the show, have become family. I am forever grateful.

I’ve been on the road now for a few weeks, dealing with some really hard stuff involving a family member. To be honest it’s breaking my heart. I’m also doing speaking engagements. Today when I walked into the school of Journalism at University of South Carolina I was hit with a wave of gratitude. If I could go back in time I wouldn’t change anything but I’d tell that dyslexic kid I was, it was all gonna be alright. Keep dreaming, do the work to make the dream come true and keep believing. I barely graduated high school. Never went to college, but now they bring me into speak. Still a hard journey ahead, but God is good, all day errday.

SWIPE LEFT. Just finished the most epic 2 weeks. Met one of my comic book heros, writer Grant Morrison, then hung out w/ my peeps @pjvogt of @replyall, was on a panel with MacArthur Genius Award Winner Nikole Hannah-Jones, ran into Tony Starks, my mellow @patenlocke, me and my DC Comics crew hung around FRANK MILLER, met @denyscowan (one of the best artist of all time), hosted a discussion for Reveal w/ journo Jim Risen, met some of my NYC fam, then saw the gorgeous artwork from @siyanimation for my first story for DC. What’s not in these pics are the fam and friends I caught up with that made the trip so so so amazing. Hanging with all these talented and fun ppl just make me hungry. 2018 is gonna pop.

I met Ms. Alberta at the protest in downtown Berkeley that I'm covering, there was so many ppl she was getting knocked around, so she took my arm, and we walked to the store. Slowly. Did her shopping, I got her a Lyft and we headed to her house to help her put her groceries up. She told me she has no one, but she has God. Her family's abandoned her, but the lord sent me to her. I think it's the other way around. She's exactly what I needed. Watching all the strife and sadness in this world, Alberta had this peace and it just rubbed off on me. I walked back into the madness singing Kendrick "I'm f*cked up, homie you f*cked up, but if God got us then we gonna be alright!"

I'm dyslexic and I've always thought of it as a gi

I'm dyslexic and I've always thought of it as a gift. It's made doing somethings more difficult, but also taught me to work harder. I didn't go to college because of it, I was tired of knowing I was smart but having a hard time proving it. The crazy thing is, I love reading and writing. To be a dyslexic writer has it obstacles, but I wouldn't change a thing. The dyslexia built a fire in me. I will not quit. I worked my ass off, and I landed here as the host of a national show, where I have to read scripts everyday. Sometimes it's not pretty, but I've got amazing ppl who support me, and that's made all the difference. I'm not a self-help type guy, everyone should do what works for them. But after the 20th take of this paragraph I was overwhelmed with gratitude, for the work, the journey, and the people who helped me along the way. Build your team of believers, work your ass off and turn your weaknesses into your strengths. And thanks @clairify_this and @jimbriggs3 for always making me sound good.
